Don’t Let Paper Jams get you Down

We all know the situation: you are finishing up a big project on a deadline, and suddenly the copier stops working. If you are lucky, you are only dealing with a paper jam. Paper jams will eventually happen to you at one point, no matter how nice your copier is. But paper jams can be easy to fix if you know how. If you follow these steps you don’t ever have to let paper jams get your down!

A paper jam is a small problem that is easy to fix as long as you stay calm. Don’t start messing around in the copier and puling on random parts. If you are not careful then you can make the problem worse.

1. Locate the jam. This will usually be in the paper tray. If you are not able to find it in the paper try then you may need to go inside the copier.
2. Gently remove the paper causing the problem. Do not yank on the paper or pull aggressively. This can cause you distrupt other parts of the copier and lead to bigger, more expensive problems.
3. Check for remaining scraps. There can sometimes be small pieces of paper left inside the copier if the paper was ripped. Make sure you clean out all extra pieces of paper.
4. Run a cleaning program. A cleaning program will help make sure that all scraps and dust is removed from the copier, and get it back in working order.
